Sarah Gelfond, LCSW, LICSW
Sarah Gelfond is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with children, adolescents, and young adults. She has a particular interest in supporting individuals navigating anxiety, neurodivergence, life transitions, and self-esteem concerns. Sarah's therapeutic approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to each client's unique needs. She draws from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and executive functioning interventions. Above all, she strives to create a warm, supportive environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to build on their strengths as they work toward meaningful change.
Sarah graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University before earning her Master of Social Work from Boston University, where she specialized in children, youth, and families.
Her clinical experience spans a variety of settings serving children and adolescents with diverse emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. After graduate school, Sarah participated in a fellowship at Boston Child Study Center, where she received training in CBT, DBT, ACT, and executive functioning coaching.
She later joined Franciscan Children's Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts, as a clinician in its school-based program. In this role, she provided therapeutic services within a specialized Boston Public Schools program serving students with significant behavioral and emotional challenges.
In 2024, Sarah returned to her roots in the DMV area, where she spent two years as a middle school social worker at a Washington, DC public charter school. She worked closely with students with disabilities, particularly those experiencing behavioral and social-emotional challenges, while collaborating with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to support student success. Through this work, she also developed extensive knowledge of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process and special education services.
Sarah is passionate about helping young people better understand themselves, develop effective coping skills, build confidence, and navigate life's challenges with resilience. She values partnering with families and believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for lasting growth and meaningful change.
